What are the prerequisites for each class?

There are generally two requirements that must be met. First, your child must be the appropriate age for the class. Second, they must have taken & passed the previous level OR be able to demonstrate the skills taught in the previous level.

Parental Supervision:

We always require a parent/guardian to maintain direct supervision of all children under the age of 16. The parent/guardian must remain at the facility once their child is in lessons and/or on the premise. In the case of a medical emergency, parents must be immediately available.  If a parent/guardian is unavailable or cannot be found in case of an emergency, the child/ren will be taken to nearest medical facility and all bills will be for the parent’s account.

Swim Lessons:

Lessons are designed to ensure that your swimmer/s receive/s a SAFE and QUALITY aquatic experience.

Preparing for Class:

  • Please be at the pool ready to swim 5 minutes before the listed class start time with your swimmer dressed and ready for swim class.

  • Wear as snug a fitting swimsuit as possible.  No 2-piece for girls, please.

  • Children that are not potty-trained MUST wear an approved swim diaper under their swim attire.  Disposables alone are not enough to capture what’s inside.

  • While eating before swimming will not give you cramps, small children who have sensitive gag reflexes may spit up/vomit during class.  To avoid this unpleasant experience for the child and instructor, please limit food, especially milk 1-2 hours prior to the lesson.

  • Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before class.

  • Bring large absorbent towels, change of clothes/diapers, etc., and use the washroom and/or changing tables provided.

  • Swim caps must be worn for children in Swim and Stroke School. (Boys and Girls) (Effective date to be advised).

  • No jewelry is permitted to be worn in the pool.

  • Children with open cuts, soars, blisters, etc., will not be permitted to swim.

  • Children with runny noses, coughs, sneezing, diarrhea, etc., will not be permitted to swim.

  • Children who have had a fever within 48 hours of class, should not attend classes.

  • Children who have had medication within 48 hours of swimming, must notify Coach.

Change in Classes:

If you would like to change the time or day of your class after commencement, a new time and day will be based on the availability of the classes.

Makeup Lessons:

Consistency is essential to learning and internalizing the lifesaving swimming skills we teach at Aquatica Survival Swim School. For this reason, we offer up to 2 makeup lessons per swim cycle for lessons missed by you, regardless of the reason.

Booking Makeups:

Students must be currently enrolled to schedule a makeup. Makeups are scheduled based on class availability and may be booked up to seven (7) calendar days in advance. To request a Makeup, submit the Makeup Request form at any time. Once makeups are scheduled, they cannot be changed, rescheduled, or canceled. Makeups hold no cash value.

Crying in Infant Classes:

Crying may occur around any physical activity for preschoolers, including swimming lessons.  It is a release of tension, and sometimes the young child will use it simply as a means of expression.  It may, or may not, signify physical discomfort. It may sometimes be difficult to proceed with the lesson while the child is crying and we will try to reassure by close physical contact and by gesture and talking in soothing tones.  At the same time, if the child learns that they can stop the lesson by crying, they will exercise that option regularly, so we need a reasonable balance between continuance of the lesson and not trying to “force” a totally out of control screaming child to participate.  Each coach will use good judgment in this situation. Frequently the crying is simply a reaction to an unfamiliar situation and the remedy is slow easy progression. Prior to the pool, water experiences for the infant focus around the bathroom, face washing and bath time. All of these experiences are major attention for the child and usually very positive sharing experiences between parent and child.

Progress Evaluations/ Swim Reports / Awards & Certifications:

A binder is provided with a Report Sheet corresponding to the Program your swimmer/s is in (Aquatots, Swim School, Stroke Development).  These forms are NOT to be removed at any time and children are NOT permitted to go into the binder. These forms indicate the swim and safety skills achieved and being worked on in each level. Upon completion of each Level, a Button Award will be issued.  At the end of each Program, a Certificate will be awarded. There are 5 levels in each program to complete. Certificates can be shown to any other swim program that your child enters, either locally or internationally as successful completion of the required skills taught.

Emergency Action Plans:

  • Severe Weather - Classes will be postponed or canceled if lightning is within a 15-mile radius of the area. Classes may resume in 30 minutes.

  • Aquatic Emergencies - Clear pool area and call for emergency assistance. Listen to the instructor or onsite adult for information. Provide first aid if required.
